The 4-year course work enables students to work in architectural or building construction related jobs or continue toward an advanced degree in a related field. Students explore industry levels of mastery in AutoCAD, 3-D Modeling and printing, and Revit. Graduates find employment in related industries such as building engineering, construction, code enforcement, materials manufacturing, and residential design/build contracting.

Because of this, he noticed some of his closest friends didn’t have the same family structure he was blessed with and weren’t able to enjoy the same experiences. While he was supported by “the village” of family and individuals in the community, Kelce struggled in school and at times lacked the motivation to keep going. Many of the people he considered role models in the community never came back to support their hometown once they reached success. Because of these experiences, Kelce felt obligated to provide opportunities to disadvantaged youth and to help them aspire beyond their current situations. Now as tight end #87 for the Kansas City Chiefs, Kelce’s passion for changing the plight of youth experiencing adversity is the inspiration behind Eighty-Seven & Running.

Academics

Bronx Design and Construction Academy believes that access to technology is important to the teaching and learning of students. While considering the nature of our environment, in which we live in a time of COVID-19, we would like for students to use the same laptop in all classes, as needed. Earlier this year, the streaming giant signed for 171,000 square feet in Burbank — another major media hub — which was one of the largest leases in L.A. Netflix also occupies 700,000 square feet of office space with Hudson Pacific Properties, including at the ICON and EPIC buildings in Hollywood. The mixed-use complex includes 355,000 square feet of office space, and 16,500 square feet of studio and production space — all leased to Netflix.

Graduates will be equipped for advance entry into the competitive construction trades and post-secondary education programs. They will also be prepared to make assured life choices, and become powerful agents of change in the community at large. Not to be confused with a traditional vocational education program,  our CTE programs teach the theory and science behind the trade and provides support with employment outside of school. Each program has been fitted to address the needs of 21st century employers as well as intellectually engage our students through complex coursework. We also connect qualified students to Driver’s Education, at no charge to families.

Yet across the city, students who are Black, Latinx, and American Indian, and students from low-income backgrounds, are less likely than their peers to attend schools where advanced courses are offered. And even when they do attend schools that offer these courses, they are less likely to be given access. Bronx Design and Construction Academy offers students 21st-century trade training, innovative sustainability practices, and rigorous academics.

Managing information and responding to the many diverse requirements of governments, building conditions, and society is increasingly important in the construction industry. The architectural profession is rapidly integrating the technology of computers and automation to assist in the management of information and to free up time for creative work. Exploring this data will help you understand which key advanced courses are offered at each high school, and whether students across different racial groups and income levels have equitable access to those advanced courses.

Aurora Borealis Cruise Astronomy Voyage

northern lights cruise 2023

Experience glassy waters and unspoilt views of the Arctic from a kayak for a different and fascinating perspective of this beautiful part of the world from the water. You may upgrade to another grade of cabin subject to additional costs and availability. Where we sail on the Norwegian coast is directly beneath the Auroral Zone, an area of consistent and heightened Northern Lights activity. Our Scandinavian tour packages offer a deeply immersive experience — the perfect Nordic adventure is waiting for you. There’s more than one way to sail with us and discover the many wonders of the Norwegian coast.

Sea Kayaking in Canada

Discover the wonders of Iceland’s nature by hiking along snow-capped mountains, marveling at enormous waterfalls, and exploring gurgling fields of Icelandic lava. Aurora Borealis, as it’s officially known, can only be seen above the magnetic pole of the Northern Hemisphere. Your chances of seeing them increase the farther north you are, which in turn makes Iceland an ideal place to try your luck at Northern Lights gazing. See ancient rock carvings at the Alta Museum; learn about the science of the northern lights. And with the company's Northern Lights Promise, if there is no recorded sighting during your expedition, you’ll get a free six or seven-day Classic Voyage the following year.

When is the best time to take a Northern Lights cruise?

Both take place in the late summer into early fall, as darkness returns to the skies in the Arctic. Rates for the eight-day itinerary start from $4,600 per person for the 2023 sailings. Hurtigruten is something of an outlier in this group because it doesn't offer specific northern lights itineraries.

More destinations to explore

Aurora Expeditions carefully plans itineraries to position their vessels in prime locations, away from light pollution, providing passengers with the best chances of witnessing the spectacular light display. With longer hours with dark skies and clear night skies, the Westfjords and North Iceland are the best regions to head to if you want to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights. There are many fantastic remote locations in South Iceland where you can witness the aurora, including the popular Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. The Seltjarnarnes peninsula is a prime viewing area as there is minimal light pollution. There are also plenty of places near Reykjavík you can head to if you’re short on time, including Thingvellir National Park. Over the course of 13 days, a luxurious Viking ocean ship transports guests from London to Amsterdam, then all the way up the coast of Norway and north of the Arctic Circle, before returning back south to the Norwegian city of Bergen.

Narvik, Norway

The ship’s captain, expedition leader and kayak guide always maintain close contact to ensure a safe paddling experience. The emphasis is on experiencing the destination rather than travelling long distances. They are calculated based on the days of voyage, ability to carry out the activity and exchange rates. You’re also more likely to see them if you visit in colder months, as the most brilliant displays occur both in dark and cold environments. Because it’s a scientific phenomenon beyond the comprehension of modern science, you can only truly predict occurrences of the Northern Lights roughly two hours before they happen.

Iceland, Greenland, and polar regions around the Northwest Passage promote some of their active, adventurous cruises around the equinoxes in September and March as northern lights viewing opportunities as well. Lines cruising in these regions include Hurtigruten, Silversea, Lindblad Expeditions, Viking Cruises, Quark Expeditions, Adventure Canada, and others. The conditions must be just right, but it's highly likely to see this magical and sometimes elusive scientific phenomenon on a Northern Lights cruise sailing the Arctic Circle during the long, dark winter nights.

Trondheim City Walk

In the Lofoten Islands, voted by National Geographic as one the of the most beautiful destinations in the world, we stroll through picturesque villages dotted with red and white fishers’ huts, surrounded by soaring granite peaks. Visit the Lofoten Seafood Center and learn about the impressive cod fisheries and perhaps sample some local seafood. Cruise lines such as AIDA Cruises, Cunard Cruises, MSC Cruises, P&O Cruises, and Silversea Cruises others offer itineraries that visit Northern Lights in December 2023. Easily find and compare Northern Lights cruises in December 2023 from Copenhagen, Hamburg, Kiel, Southampton, and Warnemunde (Rostock), as well as other Northern European ports. The cruise to see Northern Lights sails through surreal fjords of Norway, making stops at ports like Tromsø and Alta, where visitors can immerse themselves in Scandinavian charm and heritage. Further west, Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, offers a vibrant mix of modern innovation and rich history. Yet, it is the untouched, raw beauty of these destinations that will truly take your breath away. From the ship, you can admire the diverse terrains, including towering cliffs, crystalline glaciers, and tranquil Arctic waters. There’s a chance of seeing the Northern Lights anywhere within the auroral zone – a 1,500-mile radius of the magnetic north pole.

Northern Canada is the best place to see the Northern Lights in Canada, in remote places with minimal light pollution. Nunavut in the heart of Canada’s High Arctic is a prime aurora borealis viewing country, with its close proximity to the North Pole and vast expanses of tundra. Consider visiting a remote traditional Inuit community for an unparalleled night of dazzling aurora displays.

(Although some sailings operate in reverse.) The Norwegian fjords themselves are a sight to behold — and if they're paired with the northern lights, that's all the better! The sailings run from January to March when daylight is limited in the Arctic Circle, making for prime aurora opportunities. Rates start from $4,999 per person in 2023, and it should be noted that Viking is an adults-only cruise line. Both Hurtigruten Expeditions and the Hurtigruten’s Norwegian Coastal Express, offer a good number of itineraries that showcase the Northern Lights.

The Northern Lights, or the aurora borealis, are natural light displays across the Arctic sky, caused by collisions between electrically charged particles from the Sun entering the Earth’s atmosphere. Experiencing these beautiful waves of light on a Northern Lights cruise holiday is at the top of many travellers’ wish lists and it’s easy to see why. This atmospheric phenomenon in which undulating waves of green, purple and red lights dance across the sky is truly breathtaking. Good Housekeeping has partnered with Hurtigruten to bring you a unique cruise to Norway this winter.

The Ultimate Guide To A Northern Lights Cruise: How To See The Stunning Natural Phenomenon

northern lights cruise 2023

This is a difficult question to answer, as sightings are more dependent on cloud cover and luck than anything else, and the weather is so varied around the Norwegian coast. Charming and postcard-pretty, Stavanger is an idyllic coastal town, famous for its perfectly preserved wooden buildings (some dating back to the 18th century) and miles of pristine white sand. The excursion program presented is an indication of some of the excursions that may be available during your voyage. Dr Darren Baskill has over 25 years’ experience of organising and delivering public science events. He is a lecturer and outreach officer for the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Sussex, and typically runs 100 outreach events each year for schools, colleges, and the public. Darren is also a director of Ensonglopedia, a musical theatre company based in Lewes.

The Coastal Express serves as both a passenger cruise line and a lifeline for Norwegian coastal residents and these working ships transport locals’ cars, fjord towns’ freight and up to 1,000 total passengers on any given day. In Antarctica, we have many opportunities to encounter penguins, seals and whales, and occasionally we may even spot leopard seals or orcas. In the Arctic, we’ll paddle under nesting bird colonies, past massive glaciers and around large icebergs, however we maintain a safe distance from polar bears and walruses.

We think the best Northern Lights cruises offer so much more than an exciting search for the magical aurora borealis. Northern Lights Cruises November 2023

northern lights cruise 2023

An aurora is a natural light display that can appear as brilliant green, yellow, red, blue and purple light patterns, spirals or dynamic flickers covering the night sky. The aurora borealis originates on the sun’s surface with a massive explosion of electromagnetic matter, which projects a stream of charged particles known as solar wind into space. When these particles approach Earth a few nights later, they distort our magnetic field. The excited, ionised atoms that enter our atmosphere through the poles emit light which, when emitted on a large scale, causes the phenomenon of the Southern and Northern Lights. Northern Lights experiences are best with a dark sky as the aurora is not strong enough to outshine the sunlight.

One of our favourite Norwegian phrases is, 'there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing,' and this couldn't be more true when it comes to a Northern Lights cruise. You'll want to ensure you're protected from the elements and packing layers is key, with wool or silk base layers and two or three layers of fleeces or wools on top, and don't forget the thermals for your legs, too. When you're not searching for the Northern Lights, there is also a sauna, outdoor hot tubs on the deck, multiple restaurants to try, and a well-equipped gym. In the Arctic, the Northern Lights season runs from the last week in September to the first week in April, Dr Mason explains. "On Hurtigruten’s voyages, you will be notified when the Northern Lights are visible at any point over the tannoy so you are guaranteed not to miss them." Read below to see what our lovely guests have said about our Northern Lights cruises.

Be the first to hear about our latest offers, exciting itineraries and inspirational articles. Our crew will announce occurrences of the aurora to your cabin or suite at any time of the day or night. All the cabins and suites on our ships have an ‘Northern Lights alert’ which will tell you whenever we spot sightings of the aurora, so you can rush to your window or outside to catch them. Hurtigruten's MS Nordlys, for instance, has a modern, Arctic-inspired design, with a few luxuries on board. Expert guides will take you to the best local spots, amid beautiful landscapes, perfect for seeking out the elusive Aurora Borealis. A Northern Lights occurrence is defined as a sighting from the ship which is recorded by the ship’s deck officers and which is announced to passengers on board.

The huge Beerenberg volcano is the world’s northernmost active volcano, last erupting in 1985. The northern part of the island is a great place to look for whales and dolphins, and contains impressive glaciers, some of which reach the sea. If the weather is friendly, we will try to land at Kvalrossbukta, a relatively sheltered bay on the island’s west coast. This is one of the landings used to supply the Norwegian weather station at Olonkinbyen, a settlement situated on the eastern side of the island.

This is why Aurora Expeditions’ Northern Lights tours don’t focus on one spot or location. The Northern Lights are most frequently visible in high-latitude regions in the Arctic, but most accessible between 10° and 20° of the North Pole in a band called the ‘auroral zone’. Viking Cruises’ 13-day In Search of Northern Lights itinerary, travels from London (Tillbury), England to Bergen, Norway (and in reverse), with multiple on-board lectures about the myths and science of the northern lights and tips on best photographing them.

Can I Bring Bottled Water on Carnival Cruise?

While it’s essential to adhere to the guidelines and ensure your bags aren’t excessively heavy for the porters, Carnival’s approach to luggage weight tends to be more lenient compared to most airlines. Use the same backpack or tote bag you used for embarkation as your shore excursion bag or bring a foldable beach tote like thisalong in your cruise luggage. All this should fit easily into a backpack, tote bag or carry on suitcase. If you’re flying in to the port you’ll probably a suitcase for the things you need on the flight or the night before the cruise if you’re arriving early. This Carnival Cruise packing checklist is for a warm-weather cruise. If you’re headed to Alaska, then you need to head over and read my Alaska Cruise Packing List.

Take advantage of drive-to cruise ports

The key to maximizing your wardrobe on the high seas is working with a few core pieces of clothing and mixing them up over the course of your itinerary. That's especially handy for evening wear, which tends to be bulkier and take up more luggage space. After all, cruise rooms aren't exactly known for being spacious, dress codes can be confusing and luggage fees on airlines are steep. You'll also want to consider what you'll need aboard your cruise aside from clothing.

Casinos, bars, retail shops, lounges and theaters are frequented by guests who dress according to daytime to nighttime standards. Basic rules still apply no matter the time of day – no swimsuits, wet clothes, or bare feet. On certain special nights, our main dining rooms celebrate our Cruise Elegant festivities and we invite guests to enjoy a special night out in a sharp and chic way. And don't forget your personal toiletries (travel size or standard container size).

Cabins and suites

carnival cruise what to bring

Yes, on embarkation day, guests aged 21 and older can bring one 750-ml bottle of sealed/unopened wine or champagne per person in their carry-on luggage. Note that fortified wines like Port and Sherry are not allowed. However, for convenience, you can pre-purchase bottled water to be delivered to your stateroom on embarkation day via /funshops or buy it on board. I hope you’ve found my Carnival cruise packing tips useful and you now know what to pack on Carnival cruise ships. If you’re bringing trays of soda cans on board these must go in your carry on bag so I would suggest using a small wheeled suitcase for this so you’re not carrying them through the embarkation queue. It usually takes a minimum of one hour of queuing for security, document checks and boarding so make sure you can comfortably manage your Carnival cruise carry on.

Decorations for your cruise cabin door

In fact, the lower tiers of the Carnival program are among the most stingy in the entire cruise universe. You'll receive things like a single complimentary bottle of water (at the Red tier) and a single free drink that only can be ordered on the last night of a cruise (at the Gold tier). One or two nights a cruise, there will be a more formal "cruise elegant" night where men are expected to turn out in dress slacks and a dress shirt, preferably with a sports coat, or even in a suit. The suggested attire for women on such nights is cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses. During the evenings, there is an official dress code, but it's pretty laid-back.

The quality of the food (and drink) on Carnival ships always surprises us, given the budget pricing of the brand. Other extra-charge eateries often found on Carnival vessels include Bonsai, an a la carte sushi restaurant (now on 14 ships), and JiJi Asian Kitchen, which costs $24 per person (now on four ships). BlueIguana is a Chipotle-style restaurant, with yummy made-to-order burritos and tacos. Created in partnership with Food Network's Guy Fieri, Guy's Burger Joint offers burgers that beat anything you'll find around the pool on other mass-market ships and even most luxury vessels. That said, Carnival has seen the success that some of its competitors have had with a bigger range of upscale accommodations, and it's eyeing more suites for future vessels.

carnival cruise what to bring

Please review our list of Prohibited Items before shutting your suitcase. U.S. citizens may present a limited-use, wallet-size passport card. The passport card will only be valid for land and sea travel between the United States and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean region, and Bermuda. The passport card cannot be used to travel by air outside the United States.

If you're like our family and pack every conceivable electronic device when you cruise, the adapters will help you make the most of any outlets that would otherwise go unused. We put together a Carnival Cruise Line packing list that includes everything you need to sail on a "Fun Ship." Here's what to pack for a Carnival cruise. A bathroom spray is useful in compact cruise cabins for obvious reasons. Poo-pourri is a favorite “before you go” spray that works quite well. Many people who cruise with kids swear by an over the door organizer and consider it a cruise cabin essential!

Most vessels have standard North American-style, 110-volt outlets in rooms, as well as European-style, 220-volt outlets. Note that three of the line's newest ships — Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration and Carnival Venezia — do not have launderettes. Carnival fans are quite peeved about this, and you should be, too. In addition, vessels offer extra-charge laundry and, on select ships, dry cleaning services.

Carnival cruise packing list The Points Guy

carnival cruise what to bring

To ensure the safety and comfort of all guests and crew, there are specific items that you should leave at home. Remember, Carnival’s weight limit for checked bags is 50 pounds or 22.6kg. However, it’s still a good idea to ensure your bag isn’t excessively long to ensure easy storage in your stateroom. However, if you are flying to the cruise port, it’s essential to follow all rules for flights regarding liquids. There are no restrictions on the amount of liquids that can be brought on a cruise ship. Not all bags may fit under the bed, potentially causing the cabin to feel cluttered.

What Men Should Pack for Daytime on a Cruise:

Carnival adds an automatic service gratuity of $16 to $18 per person, per day to final bills, depending on the cabin category (children under the age of 2 are exempt). If you are unhappy with the service you receive, you can adjust this amount at the Guest Services desk before disembarking. Also, an 18% gratuity is added to bar bills and the cover charge of the Chef's Table. Carnival also offers dedicated tween and teen programs on ships for children aged 12 to 17. The younger children in this age range (12-14) are grouped into what's known as Circle C and have their own dedicated lounge on ships. It's a place to get together to talk, watch movies, play video games and take part in other activities.

Your Carnival cruise packing list should include prescription and over the counter medication. When traveling, it’s a good idea to bring 2 extra weeks of prescription medication. As we mentioned, tuxedos are out of place on almost every mainstream cruise ship these days and you likely won't even see a full suit. That means one pair of shorts, chinos or jeans for daytime (depending on your cruise's itinerary). Again, pay attention to colors if you're hoping to mix and match.

A Carnival cruise packing list wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t let you know the things not to pack for your cruise. For safety reasons, many of these things are prohibited on a cruise ship. Important – surge protector bars are prohibited on cruise ships, so don’t bring one from home. On embarkation day, it will take a few hours for your luggage to be delivered to your cabin.

We like all our guests to have fun and are committed to providing you a great vacation. Please take a few moments to review some important information and policies that we ask all guests to be familiar with. Purchasing transportationcan be done through Manage My Booking on carnival.com or bycontacting Carnival Reservations up to 2 days prior to the sail date. You will need to provideyour flight information in Online Check-in at the time of purchase. Your flightdetails are provided to the transportation company to assist in expediting yourtransportation to the pier. It is your responsibility to updateCarnival with any changes to your flight schedule to ensure you are met by the transportationcompany.

Add it to your reservation before you cruise, and you can save 10% on the package price. Alert the line at least four weeks before your sail date to request the credit. Once on board, you'll have free money to spend on drinks, specialty dining, shore excursions or souvenirs. Do you own 100 shares of stock or more in the Carnival Corporation?

Take advantage of drive-to cruise ports

T-shirts are fine for all daytime indoor dining (tank tops are fine for the pool, but may get a look on some ships during breakfast or lunch indoors). All Carnival cruise ship cabins come with generic shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion (suites offer slightly higher quality body care products) -- so chances are, you'll want to bring your own. Whether you're traveling with full-size luggage or a carry-on bag, we recommend this travel toiletry container set.

If you're sure Carnival is your line, look for a travel agent who specializes in trips with the brand. You want someone who understands all the little quirks that are unique to Carnival's cabin categories and, preferably, has done ship inspections to see the cabins firsthand. That said, given the complexity of booking a cruise — there are a lot of decisions to make during the booking process; trust us — we recommend you use a seasoned travel agent who specializes in cruises. In general, Carnival ships are among the most affordable at sea.

To log on, once on board, you will need your folio number (found on your Sail & Sign card) and date of birth. Some features are available before your cruise but more functionalities become available once on board. Guests can upgrade from one plan to another and use multiple devices, per plan, including their smart phone, laptop or the shipboard internet café, but only one device can be used at a time. To keep you connected while at sea, all ships provide satellite internet access at our internet cafés and through the bow-to-stern ship-wide Wi-Fi network. Our crew works hard to provide you with a great vacation and takes pride in being part of the best team in the cruise industry. On longer cruises, the first Cruise Elegant evening is scheduled for the second or third evening of the cruise.

(I struggled with this during my cruise on Carnival Sunshine, the line's oldest ship.) If you think you'll need more outlets, pack a power strip. Just make sure it isn't one with a surge protector — those are banned on cruise ships, as are extension cords. If your itinerary includes warm-weather beach destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico or Hawaii, water sports like kayaking and snorkeling might be on your schedule. Consider packing a dry bag for your camera, cellphone and wallet.

You can double-check the current Carnival luggage policy guidelines here and look under “How Much Luggage Can I Bring”. You can also download my what to pack for a Carnival cruise checklist here as a spreadsheet if you prefer so you can plan and customize it on your computer. You just need to save a copy to your Google Drive or simply download it as an Excel spreadsheet. Download your own copy of my Carnival Cruise packing list PDF here. Using packing cubes also make it easy to unpack when you arrive in your stateroom and organise your belongs. Just pop the cubes out of your suitcase and straight into a drawer or cupboard.

From breakfast through the afternoon, you don't need to stress about your outfits. If you're cruising in tropical regions, pack one pair of shorts for every two days of your cruise (in cold regions, switch shorts for pants or jeans). If you like to vary your look, pack different color shorts or breezy skirts.

I realize that you technically won't "pack" this, but you'll want to include this on your packing list. My family has relied on this app before and during every Carnival cruise we've ever taken — it works on every ship in the line's fleet. It's a fantastic way to keep track of your cruise and stay connected once you're on board. This foldable mesh laundry hamper was one of my most useful items for organizing inside and our balcony cruise cabin.

Bolt is Carnival's new roller coaster attraction found on Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration. The thrill ride is tons of fun, but a maximum of four people can ride it at any one time. Reserve a spot as early as you can to make sure you get to try the attraction. The Carnival HUB app is essential for planning your cruise both before and after you're on board. It allows you to make reservations for dinner and purchase tours, spa treatments and onboard Wi-Fi.

There's now at least one waterslide on all but one ship in the Carnival fleet (Carnival Luminosa) — something no other line can say. When it comes to raucous, though, nothing on Carnival ships quite compares to the frequent karaoke nights on board. Sometimes held in a secondary lounge or a shipboard pub, karaoke on Carnival draws a big crowd. Passengers come prepared with rehearsed songs and sometimes even their own guitars. For the most part, Carnival ships don't have quite as many features on board as Royal Caribbean or Norwegian vessels, in part because they're not as big.
